Yes, online-based therapy has over two decades of research showing it is just as effective as traditional face-to-face therapy for adults in improving mental health.
Here are some articles if you’re interested in reading further:

Personal experience is also important, and we can vouch for the benefits of attending therapy both online and in person.

Canvas Counseling and Wellness, PLLC is not in-network with insurance so sessions will be paid out-of-pocket. We can provide a special receipt called a Superbill (only for individual sessions, NOT for intensives) which includes the date of session, diagnosis, amount paid, your name and mine. This allows for the possibility of being reimbursed for out-of-network benefits (see next FAQ below).
Prior to starting sessions, I recommend you talk with your insurance to find out their reimbursement rate and if they cover only for in office or also for virtual/online/telemental health (most do since COVID-19).

We work for YOU, which means we can choose the frequency and amount of sessions, the form of therapy that is the best match for your needs, and the length of each session that would best meet your treatment goals (if paying out-of-pocket or using out-of-network benefits). Another benefit to not working with insurance is your records are not shared with a third party, except in special circumstances that we can talk about.

This is a very important topic. We abide by HIPAA and the laws and ethics of the states and countries we are able to provide sessions in. The technology we use is HIPAA-compliant through signing an agreement called a BAA. If the internet connection works better with a different video platform, there are a few other HIPAA-secure options. Expectations of telehealth are included in the Informed Consent document you will receive when you become a client.

Can you stream Netflix or Hulu? If the answer is yes, then your internet connection is probably fast enough to stream video sessions for online therapy. It is best NOT to use free Wi-Fi because that allows your device(s) and our communication to be less secure. It is preferable to use a computer but tablets and phones can be used too.

Yes and no. Every counseling/therapy license is different and also differs from state to state. We are able to provide therapy to clients in the states we are licensed in and to those in various other countries.
So, for example, Rebecca can serve all Texas, Arizona, and Florida residents wherever they are in those respective states and sometimes when they travel. Sometimes, we can also serve civilians living in the state(s) we are licensed in who are married to someone in the military, state department, DOD, etc.
It is a case-by-case basis so contact us with any questions.

The Informed Consent discloses information about the scope of practice including your rights, limitations of confidentiality, expectations for therapy, and more. The goal is to provide you with enough information to make an informed decision if you want to begin counseling.
The Intake document is a thorough history of the client. Our Intake form is holistic, addressing all of you--your physical, mental and emotional health, including social and spiritual factors. We view a person from multiple angles and we do not pathologize. This means we do not just give a label because every behavior makes sense (serves a purpose) on some level even if it is not helpful.
