You've been through a lot in your life.
Too much, really. And it's taken its toll. You struggle with anxiety and panic attacks, sometimes for no reason at all. It feels like the trauma is always there, living in your body and messing with your mind.
It's hard to focus on anything else. You can't seem to get ahead at work and your relationships are suffering because you're always preoccupied with what's happening inside you. You wish you could just make it all go away. But it doesn't seem like that's possible.
Your trauma is like a dark cloud hanging over you. The memories of what happened haunt you at night and even during the day. You try to push them away but they always come back, stronger than before. You feel like you're constantly on edge, waiting for something bad to happen.
You want to be free from the trauma but it feels like it's controlling your life. You feel lost and alone, like nobody understands what you're going through. But you're not alone- there are others who have been through the same thing. There is hope for healing and freedom from the trauma that has been holding you back.
Somatic Therapy Can Help
You can release the trauma that's "trapped" in your body. Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a gentle, effective way to do that. It's a naturalistic approach that honors your body's own wisdom and healing capacity.
SE helps you to reconnect with your body- something that's often lost in the aftermath of trauma. The focus is on the here-and-now experience of the body, rather than on the memories of the traumatic event. This allows you to process the trauma in a way that is safe and manageable, without re-traumatizing yourself.
Somatic Trauma Therapy
SE has been shown to be helpful for a wide range of traumas, including single-incident traumas such as car accidents and natural disasters, as well as complex traumas such as childhood abuse, rape, and combat. It is also effective for treating stress disorders such as PTSD, anxiety, and depression.
Our Therapists in Dallas are Trained in Somatic Healing
Our trained therapists can help you through this process, tailoring our approach to meet your needs. We combine SE with other somatic therapies such as EMDR to help you achieve the fullest possible healing.
You don't have to live with the pain of the past.
What is Somatic Experiencing Therapy?
Somatic Experiencing is a body-based approach to healing trauma that can be surprisingly effective. SE is based on the idea that trauma is stored in the body as nervous system dysregulation. Through a process of awareness, attention, and regulation, SE practitioners help clients to release trauma from the body and return to a more balanced state.
One of the key benefits of SE is that it can be done without reliving the trauma or re-traumatizing the client. This makes it an ideal modality for clients who have experienced complex trauma or who are struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). If you are looking for an alternative to traditional talk therapy, SE may be worth exploring.
How Does Somatic Experiencing Work?
SE is a bottom-up approach that works with the nervous system to release trauma. The first step is to help the client develop a felt sense of safety. Once the client feels safe, they can begin to focus on their bodily sensations and reconnect with their body. SE works by releasing the survival energy that became stuck as a result of traumatic events.
One of the things that makes SE so effective is that it can be tailored to meet the specific needs of each client. The focus is on the here-and-now experience of the body, rather than on memories of the trauma. This allows clients to process their trauma in a way that is safe and manageable. As the client begins to process the trauma, they will often start to feel more grounded and present in their body.
What Somatic Therapy Sessions Look Like
SE sessions typically last 50-60 minutes, although longer or shorter sessions can be arranged as needed. Rebecca integrates SE with EMDR Intensives to help her clients achieve lasting results in just a few sessions.

You May Still Have Questions About Somatic Experiencing in Richardson, TX...
Who can benefit from Somatic Experiencing?
Everyone, at least anyone who has ever experienced trauma or other forms of stress. SE is an ideal treatment for clients who have experienced complex trauma, such as childhood abuse or neglect, rape, or combat. It can also be helpful for those struggling with PTSD, anxiety, depression, and other stress-related disorders. If you are looking for an alternative to traditional talk therapy, SE may be a good fit for you.
What should I expect during an SE therapy session?
During our initial meeting, we will review the documents you signed and answer any questions you have about therapy in general. We will then spend some time talking about your goals for therapy and what you hope to achieve.
If you decide to move forward with SE therapy, we will begin by exploring your early childhood experiences and how they may have contributed to the formation of the physical sensations.
As we work together, you will learn to understand the cues your body/system has in trying to communicate (aka it’s language) and how to help yourself to heal.
How much does Somatic Experiencing Therapy cost?
Depending on provider availability, Somatic Experiencing may only be available for Intensive clients. Currently, Rebecca integrates SE in her EMDR+ Intensives (click here for more information). Therapy rates for each therapist are listed here.
Rebecca at the moment offers concierge/intensive sessions with clients and then weekly or every other week as soon as spot becomes available (See FAQ for fees).
We continue to pursue training to provide high value for your hard-earned money.
Is Somatic Experiencing covered by my insurance?
Canvas Counseling and Wellness PLLC is not in-network with insurance. At your request, we can provide a special receipt called a Superbill which includes important information about the service(s) provided that you can then submit to your insurance company. You will then submit to your insurance’s out-of-network department for possible reimbursement.
Prior to starting sessions, we recommend you talk with your insurance to find out if they reimburse/cover out-of-network services. For more information about fees and insurance, visit our FAQ page.
